Incubator for a Roaming Pan African Biennial
A group of four cultural producers based in Africa, consisting of Jimmy Ogonga (Nairobi Arts Trust/Center for Contemporary Art of East Africa), Gabi Ngcobo (Center for Historical Reenactment, Johannesburg), Mia Jankowicz (Contemporary Image Collective, Cairo) and Khadija El Bennaoui, started a discussion on the feasibility of a nomadic Pan African biennial of contemporary art. The project Incubator for a Roaming Pan African Biennial was initiated by Bassam el Baroni, of the curatorial collective Alexandria Contemporary Art Forum (Egypt), under the aegis of Manifesta 8, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, which will take place in the Region of Murcia (Spain) in dialogue with northern Africa from the 9th of October 2010 until the 9th of January 2011.
The Incubator will develop in the format of a website, a publication, a workshop and a public symposium. The latter is due to take place in Murcia during Manifesta 8 (date to be later determined).
